In Ayurveda, seasonal change (Ritu Sandhi) is a crucial transition period when one season shifts into another. This is a sensitive time when the body is more vulnerable to imbalances, making self-care especially important.
As we transition into Autumn, we recommend supporting your body with nourishing Ayurvedic oils:
Dhanvantri Oil – Promotes relaxation, recovery, and overall well-being.
Sahacharadi Massage Oil – Supports circulation and joint health.
Bala Ashwagandha Oil – Strengthens and rejuvenates the body.
Embracing these Ayurvedic oils during this seasonal shift can help maintain balance, nourish the body, and promote overall wellness.

Discover Your True Nature: The Science of Prakriti
Ayurveda, the ancient science of life, teaches that each individual is born with a unique mind-body constitution known as Prakriti. This constitution, determined at conception, serves as a blueprint for your physical, mental, and emotional characteristics. By understanding your Prakriti, you can make choices that support balance, health, and harmony throughout your life. Understanding your Prakriti brings you closer to understanding your true self.
What is Prakriti?
You may have heard the question, “What dosha are you?” While this can be a bit misleading, it reflects an essential aspect of Ayurveda: we are all composed of the three doshas. Your Prakriti is your inherent constitution or natural state, shaped by a unique combination of the three energy principles (doshas): Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Interestingly, your Prakriti is influenced by your parents’ constitutions at the time of conception.
To determine your Prakriti, an Ayurvedic practitioner may use a combination of questioning, observation of your physical and mental characteristics, and techniques like pulse reading.
Why Is It Important to Understand Prakriti and Vikriti?
While Prakriti reflects your inherent constitution, Vikriti refers to your current state of balance or imbalance. Understanding both is crucial for maintaining health:
Prakriti reveals your natural strengths, tendencies, and vulnerabilities.
Vikriti shows how far you may have deviated from your Prakriti due to factors like diet, lifestyle, stress, or seasonal changes.
The goal of Ayurveda is to bring your Vikriti back into alignment with your Prakriti, ensuring optimal health and harmony. By understanding your Vikriti, you can take proactive steps to restore balance and support your overall well-being.
The Importance of Knowing Your Prakriti
Understanding your Prakriti provides a personalized framework for achieving and maintaining optimal health and well-being. Here's why it matters:
1. Personalised Health Guidance
Your Prakriti offers insights into the ideal diet, lifestyle, and daily routines tailored to your natural tendencies. For instance, a Vata-dominant individual benefits from grounding and warming foods, while a Pitta-dominant person thrives with cooling practices.
2. Early Detection of Imbalances
Recognizing your Prakriti allows you to identify imbalances (Vikriti) early. These imbalances manifest differently depending on your constitution—e.g., Vata imbalances may cause anxiety and dryness, while Kapha imbalances may lead to sluggishness and weight gain. Addressing imbalances early prevents them from developing into chronic health issues.
3. Holistic Stress Management
Your Prakriti influences how you respond to stress. For example:
Vata types may feel anxious under pressure.
Pitta types may react with irritability.
Kapha types might withdraw or feel stuck. Knowing this enables you to adopt stress-relief techniques that suit your constitution, such as meditation for Vata, cooling practices for Pitta, and stimulating activities for Kapha.
4. Preventive Healthcare
Ayurveda prioritizes prevention. By understanding your Prakriti, you can adopt habits that maintain balance and prevent disease. Practices like aligning your daily routine (Dinacharya) and seasonal habits (Ritucharya) with your constitution promote long-term health.
5. Emotional and Mental Well-Being
Your Prakriti influences your emotional tendencies:
Vata types are creative but may overthink.
Pitta types are focused but can struggle with anger.
Kapha types are nurturing but might experience attachment. Recognizing these tendencies fosters self-awareness and emotional balance.
6. Improved Relationships
Understanding your Prakriti and that of others enhances empathy and communication. Recognising the natural traits of those around you allows you to adapt your interactions, creating more harmonious relationships.
7. Aligning with Your True Nature
Knowing your Prakriti empowers you to live authentically and in alignment with your true nature. It fosters self-acceptance and allows you to honour your individuality, creating a sense of harmony within yourself and your environment.
