Trikatu – Ignite Your Digestive Fire

Trikatu, meaning “three pungents,” is a powerful Ayurvedic formula made from equal parts of Black Pepper (Maricha), Long Pepper (Pippali), and Ginger (Shunthi). Traditionally used to kindle agni—the digestive fire—Trikatu helps to awaken sluggish digestion and support the healthy assimilation of nutrients.

Known for its warming, stimulating qualities, Trikatu is especially beneficial when:

  • Digestive strength is low – helping reduce bloating, heaviness, and sluggish metabolism

  • There’s a need to scrape away ama (toxins) and support internal cleansing

  • Supporting the bioavailability of herbs – often combined with other formulations to enhance absorption

Trikatu is also considered helpful in balancing Kapha and Vata doshas due to its dry, light, and warming nature. It is often used during seasonal transitions, or when digestion feels dull or burdened by excess.

Serving suggestion: Add ¼ - ½ teaspoon to warm water, once or twice daily half hour prior to food or as directed by your ayurvedic practitioner
